A4-001: Lid Retrieval Error

What it means:

Ovvi was not able to retrieve the lid from a used can. Normally, when a can is opened, the opener holds onto the lid until the feeding session ends. Then the Nest will collect the lid from the opener and then push the used can and lid into the Used Can Chute.

Two scenarios are possible:

  1. The lid fell into the body of Ovvi before the opener could release it properly (loose lid inside the carousel).
  2. Ovvi did not detect the weight of the lid dropping onto the empty can, so it pushed only the used can into the Used Can Chute and triggered this alert.

How to fix it:

  1. Disconnect power from Ovvi.

  2. Remove the Chute System(NOTE: See the Important Note section below for guidance on when it is safe to remove the Chute System and when it is not.)

  3. Eject all used cans and load at least 1 new can.

  4. Look inside the Chute Funnel and reach in to move the carousel left and/or right until you see the lid that may have fallen out.  Carefully take out the lid.  (NOTE: The carousel will only move so far to the left or right.  If you meet with resistance, do not force it.  Start rotating it the other way or you may damage Ovvi.)

  5. Once you have the lid, rotate the carousel until the back of the Arm is centered inside the Chute Funnel.
  6. Plug Ovvi back in.
  7. Insert the Chute System back into Ovvi.  Ovvi should now operate as normal.

Important Note: Don’t Remove the Chute While Ovvi Is Active

Please do not attempt to remove the chute system if:

  • You hear Ovvi’s internal gears or motors working

  • The front LED light is pulsing or rotating

  • Ovvi is in the middle of a feeding

During these times, Ovvi’s internal chute lock system is engaged and will prevent removal. If you feel resistance, do not forcefully pull — this can damage both the chute system and Ovvi’s internal structure.

Wait until Ovvi is:

  • Completely silent

  • Showing a solid color LED light (any color is OK)

  • Not opening the food door when you approach (because the scheduled portion has already been eaten)

That’s when it’s safe to remove the chute system.
